Special announcement
Dear NTCBC family,

Your health and safety is of primary concern to Church, and in view of the Ontario Health Chief Medical Officer’s recommendation of immediate suspending all large events and public gatherings of over 50 people due to COVID-19, the Deacon Board and Pastoral Team has decided to suspend all in-person meetings at church immediately until future notice.

We invite you to join our “online” worship every Sunday morning. We will provide “live streaming” services at our usual time: English Service at 9:45 am, Cantonese Service 11:15 am, and Mandarin Service 11:15 am. Please refer to the web page www.ntcbc.org/stream for the details to experience the online worship. As for offsite meetings such as fellowship, cell groups, Bible study, and caring ministry, we encourage you to find creative ways to stay connected in the meanwhile.

As COVID-19 has caused fear and trouble all around us, let us be reminded that God knows it all and He is always in control. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in troubles." Therefore we will not fear. This is a challenging time, but it is also a good opportunity for us to live out our Christian faith and love. We encourage every one of us to do the following:

  1. Pray Continually – Ask God to help government officials around the globe to stop the spread of the virus, to heal the infected people, and to protect healthcare professionals.
  2. Care for one another – Reach out to our brothers and sisters in Christ by phone or Whatsapp/Wechat, etc., making sure they are okay and asking if they need any assistance.
  3. Love your neighbour – Reach out to your neighbour, showing hospitality and kindness (e.g. buying groceries for a neighbour).

In time like this, let us function as salt and light of the world; let our good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise our heavenly Father (Mt. 5:16). Together we can make a positive change/impact to our society.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this arrangement.

Shalom!

Shalom(平安)!

Current information from public health indicates that symptoms may present themselves up to 14 days after exposure to the COVID-19 virus.

If you need help with groceries or other supplies while you are home, please reach out to our caring department at [email protected]. To accommodate those who are not able to attend worship service because of isolation, illness or church closure, the church will announce live worship streaming details shortly.

3. Should you start coughing or develop symptoms while you are in church, you can get a mask from our office and go home at the first available opportunity.

(If you have been coughing, please stay home as outlined in #1)

Practice proper coughing and sneezing practices - cover your mouth and nose with your arm or tissue. Do not cough into your hands. If you cough into a tissue, throw it away as soon as possible and wash your hands afterwards.

4. We discourage hand shaking in greeting each other in the church.

Just send a gentle wave and smile to greet each other to eliminate any hand contact.

5. Wash your hands often. We have installed hand-sanitizers at all levels of our church building and washrooms. Make liberal use of hand-sanitizers at all times.

To protect yourself and others from illness, please use the hand sanitizer on your way into and out of the church.

When washing hands, wash thoroughly, including between your fingers, under your fingernails and your wrists. Washing your hands is the most effective way to protect yourself. Keep your hands away from your face. We unconsciously touch our eyes and mouth with our hands many times a day.

6. Wearing masks is at the discretion of the individual depending on one’s comfort level. It may be a personal choice for those who do not want to get sick.

Those who wear face masks should be aware of how to properly put on, take off and dispose of masks.

7. Our church office administrative staff will wear masks on Sunday.

Our office staff come in contact with a lot of people both internal and external such as outside visitors. While we highly recommend them to wear masks for their protection, it is ultimately at their discretion to do so.

8. The church will conduct the Lord’s Table in a new arrangement to minimize the hand passing of the Holy Communion trays and plates amongst the congregants.

We ask that you avoid touching the deacons’ hands by receiving the cup and bread with an open palm.

9. We will not be passing offering bags during services. Offering will take place after service as ushers will hold the bags for you to give offering on your way out.

The church is working on electronic means for you to do your offerings in the near future.

10. We would like to have a means to timely contact you re COVID-19 urgent matters. You can fill in a COVID-19 contact form in the office or email us at [email protected].

Emergency situations could be possible exposure to COVID-19 in the church, cancellation of worship services, etc. Your contact information will be kept confidential and only used for this situation. You only need to provide your information if you are not already part of any communication medium via fellowship small groups e.g. WhatsApp, WeChat, email, etc.

11. We are suspending meals or serving food and drink in the church effective immediately.

Individually packaged snacks will be made available in certain circumstances (e.g., for children).

12. The church has enhanced cleaning and disinfection of commonly touched surfaces (e.g., handrails, door knobs, light switches).

We will continue to take additional measures to enhance the cleanliness in the church such as  hands free faucets.

We trust that God is in control during this challenging time. As brothers and sisters in Christ, we should all conduct ourselves in a prudent and caring manner towards others in dealing with the impending spread of novel coronavirus.  As the Psalmist said,  "My refuge and my fortress, My God, in whom I trust!".

Psalm 46:1-3

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.
