Lead Us Not Into Temptation
Bible Text: Matthew 6:13 | Preacher: Curtis Lai | Series: Thy Kingdom Come 2020 | Big Idea: God delivers us from temptation by keeping us from it or helping us through it.
As we come to the end of the Lord’s Prayer, we reach Jesus’ final petition: ‘Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.’ When we take a deeper look at this petition, we realize that it informs our understanding of how to properly pray about temptation and sin. First, it increases our dependence on God’s sovereignty in our lives and causes us to plead with Him to deliver us from temptations that would otherwise cause us to sin against Him. But when temptation and trials come – which God reminds us throughout Scripture they will – praying this petition also gives us a greater awareness and distaste for sin through His Word.
It is a petition that, when prayed wholeheartedly, reminds us we are truly dependent upon God to deliver us from sin. And it reminds us that God delivers us from temptation by keeping us from it or helping us through it.
