Longing to Look

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Peter 1:10-12

The season of Advent encourages us as believers to celebrate and anticipate the coming of Christ. During this season we look back and celebrate the anticipation of Jesus’ first coming as the promised Messiah and at the same time we look forward with eager anticipation to His second coming. And yet during this season, we often find ourselves feeling the opposite of this - a lack of excitement for what we know we ought to be eagerly anticipating.

In our passage this week, the Apostle Peter provides us with several reasons for why we ought to give thanks with greater fervor for the coming of Christ. Pointing us to three different witnesses of Christ – the Old Testament prophets, the New Testament preachers, and the heavenly angels – Peter encourages the Church to recognize the incredible privilege of being able to look back upon the life of Jesus and experience the fulfillment of God’s promised salvation through Him.
