Setting our Sights on the Saviour
Bible Text: Colossians 3:1-4 | Preacher: Curtis Lai | Series: NT Reads the NT | As believers, we have died to ourselves and been given a new life in Christ. And as a result, Jesus alone is the one that we are called to live for. He alone is the one that we orient our lives towards. In our passage this week, Paul exhorts the church in Colossae to do exactly that. Responding to some of the false teaching that was beginning to circulate in the church, He emphasizes the supremacy and sufficiency of Christ in the life of the Christian.
We are called to set our sights on Jesus alone, not on the things of this earth, because He alone is worthy of our devotion and affection. And while the church at Colossae was facing pressure towards syncretism – mixing non-Christian ideologies with the Biblical Gospel – Paul’s urge to them, and to us today, is to exclusively worship Christ. His reminder is to recognize that Jesus alone is worthy of our worship because He alone is our saviour.
Big Idea
We set our sights on the saviour alone because Christ alone is our saviour.
