Giving to the Giver
Bible Text: 1 Chronicles 29:1-22 | Preacher: Curtis Lai | As we look back to the provision of the temple in the Old Testament we see King David demonstrate wholehearted giving and generosity. His example, alongside the nation of Israel’s, serves as a model for what our genuine giving ought to look like today. But what motivated him to give faithfully and fervently? As we look at the passage, and specifically through how he prays for himself and the nation, we clearly see the underlying motivations of David and the Israelites in their giving. They were giving back to God as stewards of His generosity who had the privilege to participate in God’s Kingdom work on Earth.
And their example provides a timely principle for us today: it is only when we are empowered by God through the proper motivation of giving that we can live out the ideal model of giving. Only then will we be able to wholeheartedly recognize that we give to God what He has first given to us.
