In this series of seven woes, Jesus rebukes the scribes and Pharisees for their spiritual hypocrisy. In pointing out their hypocrisy and its profoundly negative influence on those around them, Jesus provides us with a mirror by which we also ought to evaluate our faith today. True faith is evidenced by external expressions of piety that stem from inward realities that have captivated a believer’s heart. Therefore to safeguard against hypocrisy, we are called to cling to Christ as the true treasure of our faith.
