Our passage retells an occasion when Jeremiah proclaimed a message of judgment at the temple gates that fell upon deaf ears. This response was indicative of Judah’s overall unfaithfulness to their covenant with God, and they eventually experienced God’s judicial wrath. The Good News of the Bible is that though we too may have taken God’s name in vain, our story can end differently because Jesus’ death and resurrection has made forgiveness for sin and reconciliation with our Heavenly Father possible.
