God created Israel for intimacy with Him and to work alongside Him for His glory and praise. However, since they refused to listen to God, He spoiled them, allowing them to suffer the consequences of their sin. Though sinners are not beyond redemption - Jesus does wash away the penalty of sin and lead us towards holy living - the devastating effects of sin will remain. Therefore, it is imperative that we heed God’s warning to flee sin and to pursue Him.
