The Bible teaches that Jesus is a just judge who rewards the faithful and punishes the unrepentant. This may not seem like good news to us, as very few of us like the idea of being judged. However, our passage reminds us of the beauty of this news, showing us that only Jesus is worthy of being our judge because He first offered mercy to all, that anyone can be pardoned from their sin and be found faithful in God’s eyes.

We are to respond to our Judge in three ways: we are to turn and repent, for we cannot hide our sin from Him; we are to treat others with love and kindness, for vengeance is the Lord’s; we are to store up heavenly treasure, for God will richly reward the faithful.
