Passage: Matthew 6:1-34

The Sermon on the Mount is one of Jesus’ most famous sermons. In his three-point sermon, He teaches that we are to be a light to the world, to pursue heavenly treasure, and to live in light of future judgment. This week, we are looking at the command to pursue heavenly treasure.

Many of us want God’s salvation and to experience every pleasure and success that this world has to offer. However, Jesus says that we can only serve one master: We can choose to love and serve God, or to love and serve anyone else. Jesus implores us to resist the temptation of temporal wealth, pleasure, and comfort and to pursue an everlasting treasure that satisfies us in this life and in the next.
